Hot tubs come in a variety of depths, ranging from approximately 72cm up to 108cm. Taller people will have trouble getting comfortable in the shallower models, so consider who will be using your hot tub and go for a suitable depth for everyone. People who are six feet or taller will find that the 72cm models leave their knees pointing upwards and out of the water, so a deeper footwell will be needed to ensure their comfort.

There are also a variety of heaters available for hot tubs. These range from no heater at all, in which case the heat generated by the pumps is used to warm the water, up to a 3kW heater. The heater will warm the water to the required temperature whilst the cover is on, but once you remove the cover to use the hot tub, you will find the water quickly cools down if the heater is not adequate for the size of hot tub you have bought. Generally, the bigger the hot tub, the larger the heater is required.

Ozone generators are an optional extra, but definitely one that is worth a few extra pennies. These generators put bubbles of ozone into the water, which serve to neutralise any contamination in the water on contact. This helps to keep the water clear and clean for longer and reduces the amount of chemicals you need to use in the pool.

Other considerations ought to include the number, power rating and location of jets, which control the amount of water pumped into the tub. The best way to find out what suits you best is to ask for a ‘wet test’ of your potential pool. This way you can get an idea of what you prefer before you go ahead and make an investment.

If you are about to buy one of these pieces of equipment, purchase the most energy-efficient model. Additionally, consider replacing other appliances such as kettles, microwaves, and stoves with their energy-efficient versions.

Now, if you do not have the kind of art on the walls aligning your staircase you need not avoid the family photo collection, it can be achieved with success. In fact, it can be as interesting as the family itself, and as stylish as the rest of the house. Get it just right by setting out a grid, or pattern that your pictures should lie within. Place the images on top of white paper in the dimensions you would like to have the frames and attach them to the wall, where you propose to nail them, with tape. Then let some time pass, and allow yourself to take the scene in. Once you confirm you like the composition, then and only then go ahead with the framing process. Otherwise, you may find in the not so distant future you regret having rushed things.

Ask any carpet expert and they’ll tell you that laying a very pale carpet can really light up the home. While magnifying and reflecting the sunshine in summer, a light carpet can also fill the home with light even when it’s dull and grey outside.

Cream may not always be your first choice for practical reasons as you may be worried that even the smallest specks of dirt may show up. But these days it’s possible to have a pale carpet that looks good, even in areas of the home with heavy foot traffic such as lounges or hallways.

On hint though, stick to chairs that have one common thread about them. For example steer clear of putting those with woven backs with solid ones. And completely upholstered ones with those with metal backs. This way, things feel less thrown together, and more intentional.

Find a lovely gold or silver picture frame, pop out the glass and insert a properly measured slab of cork or chalkboard inside of it. I know from years of experience how grand and impressive these can look. As a matter of fact, these used to be one of my favourite housewarming gifts. You can choose a frame to suit the personality of the individual, or family you are gifting it to, and know you hit on a good thing when their eyes light up with delight. But, don’t wait around for someone to show up at your door with one, good heavens no, for who could possibly select a more perfect frame for your home than you.

Still, I return to the basics often, as it reminds me of the holidays of my childhood, and those family members who are no longer around to share in the present ones.To make your own you will need very few items, just a bunch of oranges, a rubber band, wooden skewer, and cloves. Even before you get started the scent will begin to fill the air.

Place the rubber band around the orange to use as a guide for your rows. Use the skewer to poke holes along rubber band. Then insert the cloves one by one into the line of holes. Repeat. There are tons of decorative things you can do once they are complete, but I like to make a pyramid on a plate, over a bed of greenery.

If I could make one wish this year and see it fulfilled, it would be to see the return of the cardstock invitation. I want to live in a world that involves linen, raised calligraphy and hand painted art. Where I pick up my physical mail and come across an envelope that stands apart from the rest because my name is written in glitter ink, and the texture of the envelope is luxurious against my fingertips. And when I pull out the invitation sequins might fall out as I unfold the layer of tissue paper. Oh to be parted from those moments is such sweet sorrow to me.
